My 1 year sewing anniversary!

I have been sewing for 1 year now!! I started before my daughters birthday last year. This is my latest project to celebrate my 1 year anniversary and my daughters 4 year old birthday. I had some fabric I picked up from an op-shop and I've been waiting to use it for something. Its not shiny in real life though.
I wish I could quit my job and just create things all day, my dream life!

Blogging for Blogs sake

Were going to Disney on Ice on 22 May. I wanted to make Mia something Minnie Mousish. I bought her some mouse ears and a tail. Heres the skirt I came up with:

My first attempt at making Cinnamon and chocolate chip rolls with cream cheese icing. Was freaking delicious! I made the recipe up myself so hopefully I can replicate it again.
Finn started playing soccer for Papakura City Real Madrid a few weeks ago. He usually goes all over the place, comes off for a drink and a feed, needs to go toilet...all during his games. Last weekend only Daddy went with him and what do you know.....he won Player of the Day!!!
Made Mia a ruffle skirt out of some yellow knit fabric I op-shopped. I saw a skirt similar in a Home & Garden magazine and was keen to replicate it. She told me she doesn't like the skirt..hahaha. Here it is:

John Mayer - Battle Studies 2010

Went to John Mayer on his Battle Studies Tour Wednesday 28th April 2010 at Vector Arena in Auckland. Let me just say it was AMAZING! The live acoustics are unbeatable.

A yummy dinner at Monsoon Poon was the perfect start to the evening.
Got to Vector where me and my sis (Ngatihine) got our official merchandise. Then went up to get our crappy seats. Whilst in the foyer looking for the right door to crappiness, some random lady came up to us. How long have you been fans? Whats your favourite song? When did you get your tickets? Why are you all the way up here? "Must be weird a strange lady asking you all these random questions. Well listen, I have 2 front row tickets that I want you to have. Make sure you wave to me". I was freaking awe struck, gave her the biggest hug of her life and said thank you....probably a million times. Turns out she was his back-up singer. If only I had known this earlier hahaha.

The concert was amazing...the seats were the best in the house. Dead centre in front of John Mayer performing. We were able to see every single detail, from all the many faces he pulls whilst singing, turning of the guitar knobs (haha) everything!!

I officially ♥ John Mayer

Favourite song of the night: Gravity
Ps. I dont care how douchy his comments may be....hahahaha

Tie Dye Mania

Here is another dress I made a couple of months ago. I saw the fabric in Spotlight and had to buy it....the pattern however is not so great. Mia wouldn't let me have a photo by myself and Finn took the photo, so its not the greatest lol.

Wally Weekend

It was my nephews 1st birthday on Saturday. I made this Thomas cake for his party. We had an awesome time at his party!!

Below is a picture of Mia in her leather jacket and black pettiskirt. I made the pettiskirt with help from http://www.lostinstash.blogspot.com/. Found the leather jacket in an op-shop for $2.00...can you believe it? I wish I had an outfit like this!! Mia is always difficult around cameras and this is the best pic of the day hahaha

Why is there not enough time in one Day?

Korowai is on hold (surprise surprise). In the meantime I whipped up this baby!!!
Dont you just love it? Sorry couldn't be bothered rotating it. Mum bought these old woollen blankets from an op-shop a while ago and I was dying to make a coat out of them. Luckily I found an awesome pattern from http://www.burdastyle.com/ LOVE that website!! Haven't put buttons on yet because I want ones that cost $6.00 each!! Unbelievable!! I already have 2 more bits of fabric lined up to make 2 more coats...that should last me the winter.

Tully is a book about a girl who was beaten by her Mother, whose best friend killed herself and who fell in love with someone other than her husband. I must say I am utterly disgusted at her at the moment!!! She makes me want to scream!!! Read it and find out why. Great book but you just cant help hating her!

I've decided to make a Korowai

So I'm going to make a Korowai. I started going to korowai classes early last year, but things happened and I couldn't complete the class. I'm making one at home and hopefully learnt enough from the few classes to peice one together by myself.

For those of you who dont know what a korowai is, its a Maori cloak with feathers woven into it. Here is an example.

Mine will only be one colour and I'm making a mini one, so it wont matter as much if I stuff it up.

Here is the beginnings of my Korowai

Pink Anda

Last year I made an Anda dress from a pattern on http://www.burdastyle.com/ . This looked like a sack with a rope around it...GROSS!!! So here I altered the pattern a bit by adding tucks to the front and back, and lowering the neckline. Sewed some ruffle fluff I had left over from a pettiskirt onto the neckline, around the sleeves and around the hemline.

So, I think I will use the Anda pattern again, but never the original!!!
